For Sunday, we wanted to attend a local custom event that Mexico City does where they close off their main avenue, Paseo de la Reforma, and allow people to jog or ride bikes on the street instead of cars. So we walked a few miles to get over there and then found a place to rent bikes. They weren't particularly good bikes, but they did work and allowed us to join everyone else in this fun tradition. Plus, there was no risk of car accidents since there were no cars.
We biked west for a long time and then turned around and biked east past the starting point, and then finally back to the start again. It was a really wonderful experience and a terrific way to see some nice and interesting parts of the city. I of course had to record everything on my iPhone and 360 camera, so that made it a little difficult to steer at times, but I managed to do it all without ever dropping my electronics. If you're ever in Mexico City, this is certainly worth trying.
When we got back to the rental place, we were pretty lucky as they were still there but getting ready to leave – even though we were back before the deadline. One thing about the country is that time and punctuality isn't the same as it is everywhere else. Just something good to know. It’s very chill.
We got lunch at an outdoor restaurant and had a pepperoni pizza which was very well made. They have no problem making pizza over there. Then it was back to the flat to get ready for the evening. We would be going to a sushi restaurant. We took Uber to get over there since it was fairly far across the city and went to a place called Ryoshi – another fancy restaurant. We ordered all kinds of different dishes of sushi, and some very fancy drinks. Even the tequila was outstanding and great for sipping.
After the dinner, we decided to walk around because the area was quite nice as it was the financial part of Mexico City. We then opted to rent bikes to get back home, which I was a tad apprehensive about since the streets would not be cordoned off this time. It just seemed a little risky, but there were lanes especially for bikes and buses, so for the most part we were not mixed in with traffic. Once back in our neighborhood, we wandered around to look for street tacos, which we found. Those of course were excellent and incredibly tasty, and of course incredibly inexpensive as well. We even got a few extra to have later. Yeah there's no shortage of places to buy street tacos there. Notably, churros are a little harder to find.
We then just hung out at the flat and crashed after a while.
