Despite the quick trip, I didn’t park at SeaTac. Just too risky on a holiday weekend. It was an early flight out of SeaTac. My ticket was upgrade to first class, which is nice, but of course, it’s a very fast flight.
In Boise, I needed to rent a car. Only my second time doing that ever. It’s just never been a huge need for me I suppose. To my surprise, it was rather painless overall. The line wasn’t too long, although they did a slight upsell on me. I’m not sure if they didn’t actually have the car I ordered, or they convinced me on a better model, but I had selected the cheapest option and the one they proposed did look like a good choice for the long drive up. What mainly was questionable was the insurance. I know you can pass on it if your own insurance would cover the rental, but I don’t have collision or comprehension anymore, so I guess State Farm wouldn’t help much. I just bought it so I would be safe from accidents.
Then I met up with my parents, and we made the two-hour drive north, although they had their own vehicle. Many stops were made, including lunch at a nice spot with a view of a river. I indulged and got a fried fish sandwich. It was tasty, but I would not make this a regular thing.
Other stops included places on the river where there were rapids and nice photo ops. The kind of places you see in nice movies about the wilderness and nature. We met up with Andy, Merit and Tanner at one stop, but they were having lunch, so we headed north again. Soon, we were at the lodge.
The lodge is pretty nice, with cabins or rooms on a nice big lake (Lake McCall). Across the lake, in the distance, were snow-capped mountains. Once settled in, we took a shuttle bus over to a nice restaurant. It was a large group of people but we gathered around a large table and ordered food and drinks. I had a Caesar salad and beer.
After that, we returned to the lodge and had drinks in the main lounge area. Some of us stayed there chatting for a long time, eventually relocating to the bar, where was stayed until 2am. Then I went to bed.
