The next morning, we headed over to the first venue for rehearsal. This was a Moose Lodge and we had to get situated with the green room, blocking, sound system, kidnapping ropes, and all the fun stuff associated with the show. It’s quite involved. But it went well, and afterwards, it was back to the house to relax and get some food.
One issue I had was with the boom box: the battery was dead and while I thought I charged it all night, it still had no battery power. This was NOT good. Thankfully, it turned out to be the USB charger, which I guess wasn’t powerful enough to give it power. Tony lent me his and that did the trick, which was a very good thing as we really counted on the two mics and boom box to help with sound during certain occasions in the mystery. Plus, we play pirate-themed music during the breaks. Yeah, I was happy that issue was solved.
Soon, we headed back to the Lodge for our big event. Plates of snack food had been brought in, which was thoughtful. I dressed up in my nice blue suit and tie and donned a cowboy hat. It was a fun and new look for me and my long hair, although not fun enough for me to want to continue avoiding a haircut. (It had been nearly a year since the last one now.)
As for the show, it went very well. The crowd was a good size and someone even guessed the secret code to the pirate treasure chest, which was a new addition to our dinner shows. Anything to get more audience interaction helps. Once bows were done and prizes awarded, we took photos and people were free to relax. The first performance of Red Beard the Dauntless had been completed in Florida.
We returned home and it was time for more food and wine. Plus, another actor would be crashing at the house. It was getting a little busy.
