Ouch! It was a 4am wakeup. Notably, I try not to make this a habit. I took Uber to SJC around 4:45am and entered the airport around 5:30am. All this and I’m not a morning person by far. One thing noteworthy was that I had unknowingly booked myself on the inaugural flight from SJC to JFK on Alaska Airlines. This meant there were free bagels and coffee, and a woman dressed as the State of Liberty (Lady Liberty?) So that was fun, though I passed on the coffee. I want to sleep on the plane not use the bathroom repeatedly. I may have had a bagel though.
We boarded around 6:30am and soon enough, we were in the air headed for JFK. A direct flight to Italy, I could not find.
Well, not for a price I liked.
Time was not a friend as we were passing through increasing time zones. Around 3:45pm, we landed at JFK. Just a layover--nothing to see here. Oddly, the weather showed showers nearby. And it was July 6. My layover wasn’t too long, and at 7:30pm, I was headed for Rome. It had been 17 years.
