Today was a day to relax. I slept in as much as possible, but around 9am, I guess my sleep needs were satiated. We watched “The Menu” on Prime. I had seen it weeks prior and was thrilled to watch it again with other people.
In the evening, we went back to Blackbeard's Tavern for more karaoke. This would be my third time there. It was semi-crowded, with the usual very long wait times to sing. Yeah, that’s the downside: everyone there loves to sing. I chose Backstreet Boy’s “Shape of My Heart” for my first song. It was tougher than in the past, probably just out of practice for the demanding ending. And probably not a great one for connecting with the crowd. The average age there is probably 75.
My next song was “Mack the Knife,” which went much better. It was well received by most, though when I watch the videos, I can better see how people respond. Some are into it; some look bored; some chat amongst themselves. Good to know.
There was a young woman there who also song quite nicely, so my friends suggested a duet. Trouble is we didn’t really know the same songs. I don’t keep a list of readily available duet idea on my phone (I probably should start). But her suggestion was “Shallow,” from the movie “A Star is Born.” I didn’t know it, but figured I could see if could learn it really fast. I went outside and listed to it a few times. Yup. No problem—easy opening for the male part and no harmonies to memorize. The KJ accepted the request but it was near the end of the karaoke time. He managed to squeeze us in.
The song went well and it was quite nice to sing with another person. Easier, in fact. Then we all walked around a bit and went home.
