In the morning, Corey and I headed out for breakfast. We found a quaint spot called The Mimosa House. The weather was nice so we ate outside. I just had a bagel and beer—breakfast of champions I know.
Then a friend picked me up and we drove to Wheatland, Sacramento. The place was the Hard Rock Casino in Sacramento, but yeah, it’s not exactly “in” Sac, but rather 45 minutes north.
At the casino, we checked in. While I had my own room, I offered to trade with Ron since he was doing extra driving, so I was going to share a room. But then the other actor decided to not stay overnight and I then had my own room again.
We did our normal mic check and then used the rest of the time to rehearse...and rehearse...and rehearse. I was managing the show since the company owner had to be at another event. I didn't mind managing but I definitely like just performing a lot more. Less stress that way.
Eventually, the crowd began to arrive and we had to move into the green room and we went over lines more. Have to admit, I was a little worried about the show, but that's not uncommon for events such as these, especially when managing.
Despite the concerns, each scene went very well, and overall we had a great show.
Oh yeah, there was a slight SNAFU where I gave out the wrong prize to the wrong table because I misread one of the winner’s solution card. However, I was able to remedy a situation because there were extra prizes left over. Nice save there!
Once the show was done, we hung out in the green room for a while. In fact, pretty much until everyone else is left. There wasn't any afterparty for the show. People just sort of disappeared over time. I went up to my room, but then wanted to get a beer so I went back down to the casino floor.
At the bar, I ended up talking to a couple that was in the casino and just hanging out. They hadn’t seen the show, but figured I was an actor from it since I still had my suit on. They were an interesting pair, and the man was incredibly chatty, but I had nothing else going on, so I chatted with them for a while, and they kept offering to buy a beer. I declined as I really just wanted to stick with one beer. However, later I reneged and offered to buy them a beer. I made sure it was a light beer (Coors Light). Eventually another person joined the group, and people were then wanting to go find booze as the bar was closing. It was all getting a bit strange, so I excused myself to head to the bathroom, and head up to my room. Technically, I did head to the bathroom—just the one in my room.
