It was a busy day. I had to check out of my hotel and walk over to the Hotel Cavendish near Piccadilly. Once there, I wanted to check in, but the room wasn’t ready. The clerk said I could upgrade rooms if I wanted to check in then since the fancier room was ready to go. I asked what the better room had, but there was nothing notable about it, so I declined. I left my bag and headed to my first show.

It was “The Railway Children” at King’s Cross Theatre. Once there, the will-call lady said they had upgraded my seats, although it seemed like my new seat was at the very end. I asked the usher about it and nope, it was front and center. Okay then!

I got a beer before the show (my flask was now empty again) and drank it before seating. The seating was neat as two sets of audiences were on either side of train tracks with platforms. It was a great way to experience a show. Different platforms would roll on and off, and sometimes even a full locomotive with a car or two would come on--complete with great puffs of steam. In spectacle, it was fantastic.

The story wasn’t exactly top notch. It was entertaining though and everyone acted well. I was also a bit drowsy from all the running around. It was tough to stay awake and my eyelids kept up a losing battle to ward off gravity--not a great thing when your seat is front and center. Hopefully, none of the actors noticed this. It wasn’t them! Trust me!

After the show, I returned to the hotel and formally checked in. The room was nice and on the fifth floor. I rested up and then headed out for my second show. This one was actually just near the hotel I’d been staying in the night before. I probably could have planned that better.

The show was “1984” and very well done. It captured the essence of the book well and had some great effects. I would recommend it to all who have a chance to see it.
