Epilogue
Victoria is a great Canadian trip. I’d rate it over Vancouver if only one can be visited, though each are nice in different ways. Butchart Gardens is well worth a visit. I probably won’t return there as once was enough, yet it was still highly worth it. Maybe the “X-Men Castle” next time around.
It’s also a warm, welcoming city. Canada is in many ways, just an upper extension of America--or we’re a southern extension of them. Yes, yes, there are certainly many differences too, but overall, when you’re there, you definitely don’t feel like it’s a foreign land. You can even pay USD for almost everything. And the US Dollar goes a little further there. Always a plus.
In hindsight, I should have walked more before the trip, but I wasn’t in agony or anything. Also, the walks should be done with the expected weight as well. My back was a little sore from carrying my pack all day, and I didn’t pack that much in it.
Also, book EARLY AS FREAKIN’ POSSIBLE! Memorial Day in Victoria apparently occurs as a good idea to many people, and not just us. Most of the good Airbnb options sold out even two months before. And prices increase at a rapid rate after that. It’s ideal to lodge close to downtown and you’ll need a good closely hotel to enjoy the walkability aspect of Victoria.
Victoria feels safe, friendly, and inviting. Put it on your list.
